Community activist Michael Amushelelo is calling for a peaceful national shutdown in response to the expected fuel price increase on Wednesday, 4 November. His proposal includes a nationwide boycott of fuel purchases and voluntary participation by workers, with employers’ cooperation. He has also suggested considering lawful school closures, while ensuring children’s safety and keeping essential and emergency services operational. Michael is calling for immediate tax relief, engagement with the Bank of Namibia to address borrowing costs, and measures to make basic necessities more affordable. He is now asking Namibians whether they would support and participate in a peaceful national shutdown, or whether there are better ways to demand relief from the rising cost of living. He spoke to Future Media News.
