State-owned enterprises increased their combined debt by N$469 million during the first half of 2026, bringing their total outstanding debt to N$11.12 billion by the end of June. The increase represents a 4.4% rise from N$10.65 billion recorded at the end of December 2025, according to the October 2026 Financial Stability Report published by the Bank of Namibia and the Namibia Financial Institutions Supervisory Authority. Foreign creditors account for the largest share of the debt, holding N$9.37 billion, or approximately 84.3% of the total. Domestic SOE debt stood at N$1.75 billion. The report also shows that combined corporate and state-owned enterprise debt increased by 10.3% to N$219.33 billion during the six months. The regulators say growing reliance on foreign borrowing exposes businesses to exchange-rate risks.
