President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called on Namibia’s mining industry to do more in creating sustainable opportunities for youth and contributing to local economic development.

Speaking during a visit to Rössing Uranium Mine today, President Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasized that the government wants the mining sector to offer quality jobs, scholarships, training, internships, and support for young entrepreneurs.

“We want mining companies to invest in the potential of our youth and the local economies where they operate,” she said, adding that uplifting communities must go hand in hand with creating sustainable and skilled jobs that strengthen the national economy,” said Ndaitwah.

She urged Rössing Uranium and other mining operations to adopt practices that prioritize local economic empowerment and environmental stewardship.

The President said her administration is committed to creating an enabling environment for the mining industry but expects it to respond positively by contributing to value addition and broader economic diversification.

“We are asking the mining sector to invest in other sectors of the economy by empowering their workers who are entrepreneurs. At the end of this year, I must report to Namibians about new jobs created, and I am asking the mining sector to work with me to meet our people’s aspirations,” said Ndaitwah.
