Dating for Adults – Dating is Exhausting!

todayNovember 17, 2025

Background

Why modern dating is so unbelievably exhausting.

Let’s just say it:
Dating in your 30s, 40s, 50s — it’s not for the faint of heart.

We’re dealing with apps, mixed signals, emojis, “read receipts,” ghosting, breadcrumbing… and that’s before you even meet the person.
Honestly, falling in love used to take less technology and fewer emotional gymnastics.

I read an article this week that said adults over 35 find dating exhausting because they bring real life into it — kids, careers, previous relationships, healing, responsibilities, boundaries… sometimes even emotional damage we’re still ironing out.
And you know what?
There’s no shame in that. That’s real life. That’s adulthood.

And adulthood love takes more energy.
Not because we’re “too picky,” but because we’re more intentional.

We don’t have time to waste.
We’ve lived too much life to go back to immature dating habits.
We know what bad communication feels like.
We know what inconsistency feels like.
We know what losing ourselves in someone feels like.
And we don’t want it again.

That kind of self-awareness takes work.
And work takes energy.
So of course dating feels exhausting.
It’s not in your head — and you’re not doing it wrong.

We’re dating with clearer eyes now.
And clearer eyes see a lot more red flags.

But here’s the hopeful part:
With the exhaustion comes growth.
You know your standards.
You know your deal-breakers.
You know the kind of peace you want in a partner.
And you know what you bring to the table.

And that is powerful.

So if you’re in the dating world right now, and you’re tired — it doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It means you’re doing the work, showing up, trying again, and choosing connection over comfort.

And that counts for something.

Today’s question for you — and maybe think about this on your drive, your walk, or your coffee break:
What part of dating drains you the most… and what part lights you up?
Because the draining parts show you your boundaries.
The exciting parts show you your hope.

And hope — even tired hope — is worth holding onto.

And remember… dating isn’t what it used to be — but that doesn’t mean love can’t still be amazing.

Dating after 35 is not as easy as it was when we were younger and it can be quite exhausting. If you’re still a hopeless romantic looking for love after divorce or failed relationships, at least this shows you that you’re not alone!
