AR leader Job Amupanda says they are in parliament to ensure that the dismemberment of the Africans from their history, memory, knowledge and subjectivities ends.
Addressing the house on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, Amupanda said they come to repudiate the coloniality of power, coloniality of knowledge and coloniality of being.
“We desire a free Parliament and not a colonial parliament—a Namibian parliament, and not a Parliament in Namibia.
“We stand today in the shadow of a deeply contradictory economy. We have a small population, yet we battle a high unemployment rate. While agriculture is the largest employer, it only contributes 6% to our GDP.
“We invest billions into higher education yearly, yet our country only has fewer than 70,000 professionals representing just 12.5% of the labour force.
“We are the world’s third-largest producer of uranium, yet we remain energy insecure- importing electricity from South Africa and Zambia.
“We are classified as an upper-middle-income economy, yet over 80% of our economy is in the hands of whites, who are 6% of the population. This same 6% owns more than 70% of the agricultural land,” said Amupanda.
According to Amupanda, these are not just statistics but symptoms of a state that has been present but is not always purposeful, active, or transformative.
“We do not regret being on these benches. We are also not afraid to face our own, including our mentors and those we hold in high regard.
“We are a hot iron on which no minister will sit. We are the small axe ready to chop a big tree. We are not born to oppose, just as we were not born to support unquestioningly.
“We are here to fulfil the generational mission. Where it is needed, we will help and assist. Where wisdom is required, we will teach and offer advice and solutions. We don’t mind getting dirty for Namibia,” reads his statement titled Standing on the shoulders of giants inspired to fulfil the generational mission.
