Sauma demands immediate halt in aquifer

todayNovember 4, 2026

Background

The Stampriet Aquifer Uranium Mining Association wants research drilling for the proposed Wings uranium project suspended until all regulatory approvals and safety measures are disclosed. SAUMA warns that permission to drill research boreholes does not amount to approval for uranium mining or chemical leaching, nor does it guarantee groundwater safety. The association is calling for independent studies and public consultation to establish the project’s potential impact on the Stampriet Aquifer. Future Media News spoke to its chairperson, Wolfgang Teichert.
