Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia (NamBTS), in partnership with PathCare Namibia Academy, will commemorate Nelson Mandela Day through a meaningful campaign centered on saving lives. Inspired by Nelson Mandela’s legacy of service and compassion, the two organizations aim to complete 103 Acts of Kindness by encouraging staff members to donate blood across the country.
The campaign will run from 16 July to 24 July 2026, with blood donations taking place at NamBTS blood donation sites in Windhoek, Otjiwarongo, Swakopmund, Oshakati and Ondangwa. Staff members from PathCare Namibia, PathCare Academy, and the general public are encouraged to prepare themselves and make a life-saving blood donation as part of this national initiative.
The Blood Donation clinics honoring Nelson Mandela day, will take place at the following venues:

The campaign reflects the spirit of Mandela Day, which inspires individuals and organizations to dedicate their time and efforts to making a positive difference in the lives of others. Every unit of blood donated has the potential to save up to three lives, making each donation a powerful act of kindness and hope for patients in need. As part of the collaboration, PathCare Namibia Academy will also mobilize its trainees to serve as peer promoters. The trainees will support the campaign by encouraging blood donation, raising public awareness, and engaging with donors at collection sites, helping to inspire more Namibians to become regular voluntary blood donors.
Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia Education Officer, Frieda Vatileni-Asino, welcomed the partnership, saying “Nelson Mandela taught the world that true leadership is measured by service to others. Through this campaign, we invite PathCare staff, trainees and the public to honor his legacy by giving a gift that cannot be manufactured—the gift of life. Every blood donation is an act of kindness that brings hope to patients and their families.” The eligibility criteria to donate blood is that you are between the ages of 16 and 70 years old upon your first donation, weigh 50kg and above, lead a sexually safe lifestyle, eat at least four (4) hours prior to your donation and be committed to helping others.
NamBTS encourages all eligible donors to join the campaign by visiting their nearest blood donation site between 16 and 24 July 2026. Together, through 103 Acts of Kindness, Namibians can honor Nelson Mandela’s enduring legacy while ensuring that safe blood is available for patients who depend on lifesaving transfusions every day.
