How One Artist Balances Billboard Dreams with Life on the Pediatric Ward

Not many people can say they’ve made a mark on the R&B charts while also pulling 12-hour shifts caring for newborns. But Mariah, the rising R&B artist and full-time pediatric nurse, is doing exactly that—and making it look effortless.

Mariah

In a recent interview with Barret Edelstein, The Celeb Savant, Mariah opened up about the unique path she’s carved out for herself, one that blends two seemingly opposite worlds: music and medicine. The two chatted candidly about what it really takes to juggle two deep passions—and why Mariah refuses to give either one up.

Raised in Louisiana, Mariah’s love for music was matched early on by a desire to make a difference in people’s lives. While most aspiring artists might have gone all-in on the studio, Mariah chose a different route—earning her nursing degree and going on to work in neonatal and pediatric care. Her days are often spent tending to the tiniest patients in the hospital, while her nights and weekends are filled with writing, recording, and performing.

As Barret pointed out in the interview, keeping up with both careers isn’t easy. But Mariah doesn’t see it as a burden—she sees it as a calling.

“I always said I wanted to be a singing pediatrician,” she laughs. “I may not have made it to med school, but I’m still living both dreams in my own way.”

With songs like Material Girl and Hold On Me, Mariah’s velvety vocals and heartfelt lyrics have caught the attention of R&B fans around the country. But it’s her grounded, compassionate spirit that truly sets her apart.

Whether she’s on stage or in scrubs, Mariah is proof that you don’t have to choose between the things you love. With dedication, discipline, and a little bit of soul, you really can have the best of both worlds.
