In a landmark move for inclusivity, Mattel has unveiled its newest Barbie doll—one designed to represent children with blindness or low vision. This latest addition to the Barbie line underscores Mattel’s commitment to diversity and representation, allowing even more children to see themselves reflected in their toys.
Collaborating with the American Foundation for the Blind, Mattel has meticulously crafted this Barbie to accurately depict the experience of living with blindness or low vision. This effort builds on the company’s recent strides in improving representation, following the 2023 launch of a Barbie with Down syndrome.
Krista Berger, Senior Vice President of Barbie, emphasized the doll’s significance beyond mere play. “We recognize that Barbie is much more than just a doll: she represents self-expression and can create a sense of belonging,” Berger stated.
Mattel’s latest Barbie continues the brand’s evolution, celebrating individuality and ensuring that every child can find a doll that resonates with their own identity.
