Eco Geek – 6 July 2026

todayJuly 6, 2026

Background

Reducing our levels of consumption are of course super important, but in order to ‘save the planet’* we need to also improve on the other two ‘Rs’: reuse and recycling. That is why it is good to see that there are people working on those exact issues, like Professor Jason Love and Professor Carole Morrison from the University of Edinburgh’s School of Chemistry, who I spoke about in today’s Eco Geek update. The two have developed a new way of ‘mining’ so-called ‘urban ore’, metals like copper and gold which are found in a lot of the e-waste that ends up in landfills across the planet.

In case you’re interested, here is the full article from which I got the information: https://happyeconews.com/gold-and-copper-recovery-technology/

* I say save the planet in inverted commas because of course it is not the planet that needs saving, the planet will be fine without us, in fact it might even do better without us…
