It has often been said that when all the focus is put on what individuals should be doing to ‘save the planet’ the ‘bigger picture’ issues get pushed to the side, that governments and businesses promote small lifestyle changes to shift attention away from more difficult reforms, such as transforming energy systems and regulating industry.
While this Australian study doesn’t necessarily prove that government and businesses don’t try to ‘pass the buck’ by doing that, it does show that if they do it isn’t enough to distract people.
