Landlord Game

Do you and your family still do game night?

My husband, son and I do game night quite often. We make a little snack platter, and we play anything from Ludo and Uno to the Landlords game. What now?

Monopoly!!

Did you know that when Monopoly first came to be, it wasn’t called monopoly?

I quite like the original name – The Landlords Game.

So, Elizabeth Magie invented the game in 1904, and it only became Monopoly 30 years later.

Quite ironically, Magie created the game to teach people about monopolies, unchecked capitalism, and the “evils of accruing vast sums of wealth at the expense of others.

And then in 1935, an unemployed heating salesman Charles Darrow became incredibly wealthy after selling a copy of her game to the Parker Brothers. Magie, on the other hand, sold her patent to the Parker Brothers for just $500 that same year.

Irony, right?
