Our thoughts remain firmly with Bonnie Tyler as her condition takes a deeply concerning turn.

According to the Daily Mail, the Welsh singing legend — best known for Total Eclipse of the Heart — had to be resuscitated after going into cardiac arrest when doctors attempted to bring her out of an induced coma at Faro Hospital in Portugal’s Algarve region. The 74-year-old had previously undergone emergency surgery for a burst appendix and a perforated intestine, which has since led to a serious infection that doctors are working to bring under control.
The Daily Mail reports that Bonnie will remain in an induced coma in the hospital’s intensive care unit until medical staff are satisfied the infection has been managed. It’s a sobering update for the millions of fans around the world who have been following her recovery closely.
There is, however, a small but meaningful reason for hope. Bonnie’s long-time friend Liberto Mealha — who first met the singer decades ago near her holiday home in Albufeira — says doctors are remaining positive about her chances of making a full recovery, despite the ongoing uncertainty.
The Daily Mail also reports that Bonnie’s health troubles are believed to have begun during a concert in London, where she started feeling unwell. Tests at the time reportedly didn’t detect anything serious, making what followed all the more difficult.
We continue to keep Bonnie and her loved ones in our thoughts. She is, without question, one of the great voices of our time — and we are hoping with everything we have for a full recovery.
