We’re sending all our love to a true legend this week.
Bonnie Tyler, the Welsh powerhouse behind one of the greatest power ballads ever recorded, is currently in hospital in Faro, Portugal, after undergoing emergency intestinal surgery — and has since been placed in a medically induced coma to help her recovery.

A spokesman for the singer has asked for privacy during this difficult time, saying: “We know that you all wish her well.” A further update will be shared when the family is ready.
Tyler was first admitted to hospital two days before the coma was announced, with an initial statement reassuring fans that her surgery had gone well. The latest update has understandably caused concern among her many supporters around the world.
For those who grew up with her music — and let’s be honest, Total Eclipse of the Heart is on all of our playlists — this is difficult news to hear. The Jim Steinman-penned anthem topped charts on both sides of the Atlantic and has sold over six million copies worldwide. Tyler’s debut single turns 50 this year, a reminder of just how long she has been part of the soundtrack of our lives.
Earlier this year, Tyler announced her Jubilee Tour, celebrating half a century in music. Her next scheduled appearance is at the SummerLust Music Festival in Malta on 22 May, with the tour set to wrap in her home country of Wales in December.
We’re wishing Bonnie a full and speedy recovery.
