After more than five decades of rocking stages worldwide, the legendary rock band Aerosmith has announced their retirement from touring. The decision comes following a vocal injury sustained by frontman Steven Tyler, which has impeded his ability to perform.
The band took to Instagram to share the news with their fans, expressing gratitude for the unwavering support they’ve received over the years. The announcement also revealed that their “Peace Out: The Farewell” tour would end earlier than planned, cutting short a journey initially set to conclude in 2025.
“It was 1970 when a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark caught flame and has been burning for over five decades. Some of you have been with us since the beginning and all of you are the reason we made rock ‘n’ roll history,” the band wrote in their heartfelt note.
They thanked their fans for making Aerosmith a part of the “soundtrack of your lives,” acknowledging the high standards they always aimed to maintain during performances. Unfortunately, Tyler’s voice, described as “an instrument like no other,” hasn’t recovered to its former glory despite months of intensive rehabilitation.
“He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision – as a band of brothers – to retire from the touring stage,” they continued.
The band expressed deep appreciation for their crew, team, and everyone who contributed to their storied career, and extended a special thanks to their fans: “We are grateful beyond words for everyone who was pumped to get on the road with us one last time. Grateful to our expert crew, our incredible team and the thousands of talented people who’ve made our historic runs possible. A final thank you to you – the best fans on planet Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true.”
For fans who had purchased tickets for the remaining shows, the band confirmed that refunds would be issued. Aerosmith, known for timeless hits like “Sweet Emotion,” “Love in an Elevator,” “Cryin’,” and “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing,” began their tour in 2023. However, the tour faced interruptions when Tyler injured his vocal cords during a concert in New York, leading to the discovery of a more severe fracture of his larynx than initially thought.
As Aerosmith bids farewell to the touring life, their music and legacy continue to resonate, ensuring their place in rock history.
