The Surprising Science Behind the New Hangover Cure

todayOctober 12, 2025

Background

With the festive season approaching and the inevitable string of year end parties, braais, and toasts, here’s a hangover cure you may actually want to try. A new study from Mumbai has found that the best remedy for that morning-after fog might not be greasy food or strong coffee, but a refreshing blend of pear juice, sweet lime, and coconut water.

Researchers discovered that this mix, made up of 65% pear, 25% sweet lime, and 10% coconut water, helps the body break down alcohol faster by boosting key enzymes in the liver. Pear juice does most of the heavy lifting with its natural detox properties, sweet lime adds vitamin C and antioxidants to fight inflammation, and coconut water replenishes lost electrolytes. Together, they hydrate, restore balance, and soothe the body from the inside out.

While the study was done in a lab, the results make sense, the drink targets the main causes of a hangover: dehydration, inflammation, and fatigue. Scientists believe it could easily outperform coffee or a full English breakfast when it comes to recovery.
