Willie Nelson celebrated his 90th birthday in April of this year, and as a birthday gift to himself, he recorded “Bluegrass” – the 74th solo studio album by the American singer-songwriter. “Bluegrass” is Nelson’s first full album of bluegrass music and contains twelve reinterpretations of songs from his back catalogue. In an extraordinary musical career which started in 1962, Nelson has become a household name in the U.S. and is a revered musical and cultural idol. He has also received much love as a social activist for his pro-agriculture, pro-environmentalist (he has his own biodiesel brand), pro-marijuana and anti-taxation stance. And the most amazing thing is that, even though he is 90, he sounds just like in his very first tracks from waaaay back in 1962! This is “bluegrass” at it’s finest, and speaks to the quality and simplicity of his compositions that can so easily be played in a “bluegrass” style…
