A lot of people are wondering why so many octopuses, fish and other sea animals have been washing ashore. Is it because of the river reaching the ocean for the first time in a long time, or is it something else?
I asked Naude Dreyer from Ocean Conservation Namibia and Sebby Kankondi from the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources to tell us more about this phenomenon.
In laymen’s terms it has to do with the lack of oxygen in the sea, and the fish going into the waves to try and get more oxygen, and then sadly washes ashore. If you want the proper explanation and more scientific terms, then listen to what Naude and Sebby has to say.
