Swapo-linked joint venture Hodago Fishing is facing mounting legal and financial troubles, as multiple multi-million-dollar lawsuits hit the High Court. The High Court has authorised the attachment and auction of Hodago’s flagship freezer trawler, the MV Venus I, alongside company shares, to settle unpaid debts. In one suit, Corridor Logistics claims Hodago failed to deliver over 12 million dollars’ worth of horse mackerel after receiving an advance payment. In a separate action, Zambian trader Delmare Group Limited is blocking the delivery of 600 tonnes of fish, claiming rights to stock that Hodago allegedly paid for upfront but failed to supply. The court has ordered parent shareholders, including Kuiseb Fishing Enterprises and Naras Investment, to be joined to the suits to enforce liabilities. Meanwhile, Hodago also faces a 49-million-dollar international dispute over an alleged quota breach with a DRC trade partner, alongside ongoing labour battles over unpaid crew wages.
