Oshikoto governor Sacky Kathindi on Tuesday officially opened the third edition of the Omuthiya Business Expo.
Kathindi said the event is an important platform to showcase local products, forge partnerships, and drive economic advancement.
Over 130 exhibitors are showcasing their products and services. The expo, which started on Monday, concludes Saturday.
Kathindi underscored the critical importance of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as the backbone of the region’s economy, noting that they create employment and support household incomes.
He called for a strategic shift beyond basic trading toward value addition, processing, manufacturing, and robust local supply chains.
He said Omuthiya serve as an urban center and a connectivity hub in northern Namibia, and holds potential for regional development.
“As the Governor of the region I would like to call for effective partnerships between local authorities, regional councils, financial institutions, and corporate entities to build critical infrastructure such as industrial parks, warehousing, and logistics centers”, added Kathindi.
