Orchestral Manoeuvers in the Dark are, to come extent, a dinosaur which, by rights, should be extinct as it has, by all measure, outlived its era and should no longer be popular or active. But they are. For those to young to know, OMD are an English electronic band formed in Merseyside in 1978. The group consists of founding duo and principal songwriters Andy McCluskey (vocals, bass guitar) and Paul Humphreys (keyboards, vocals),  Regarded as pioneers of electronic music, OMD became key figures in the emergence of synth-pop; McCluskey and Humphreys also established the “synth duo” trend in Britain during the 1980s. In the United States, the band were an early presence in the MTV-driven Second British Invasion

Weathering an “uncool” image and a degree of hostility from music critics, the band achieved popularity throughout Europe with the 1980 anti-war “Enola Gay”, and gained further recognition via Architecture & Morality (1981) and its three hit singles. McCluskey and Humphreys attracted the moniker, “the Lennon-MeCartney of synth-pop”.

OMD continued in stops and starts through break-ups and reunions right through the next 4 decades, and are now back with another hit album. OMD have a core of very loyal supporters and that is not only rare, it is proof that they are still at the forefront of electronic music even though it is not only much more common that when they started out, it is accessible to virtually anyone. And yet they manage to sound fresh and familiar at the same time…”Bauhaus Staircase” is the 14th studio album from OMD and the first since “Punishment of Luxury” (2017)…
