Nova Cares – Huis Maerua

todayJuly 31, 2026

Background

Huis Mearua has all the challenges of other charity organisations but also has to deal with the fact that much of what they do has to remain, essentially, anonymous. Because the children they care for have been removed from their families and can often be the subject of on-going court cases, their identity cannot be revealed and, because Huis Maerua wants to allow them as normal a life as possible, there are no signs or advertising boards on the outside of the premises – just what looks like a tranquil complex in the mountains of Auasblick.

Our visit was an emotional one as, while we didn’t meet any of the children, hearing stories about what some of them have already had to live through and realising how much of a struggle remains ahead of them, we couldn’t help but be moved.

While rules dictated that there were very limited photographs we could take, these should give you a bit of an idea about the tranquil space Huis Maerua offers the children who live there, as well as how they, like all other children, cherish their achievements and memories:

You can find out more about Huis Maerua and what their needs are on their website: https://huismaerua.org/
