Works minister Veikko Nekundi has dismissed the story about Air Namibia flying back as rumours.
Veikko told a staff meeting in Windhoek on Monday, March 31, 2025, that the government is bringing in a new airline.
The minister said the new national airline the government is bringing in is not a government of pride but because of its economic contribution to the country.
‘’Not because of pride, it will not come back because of so-called pride but because it is an unmeasurable economic contribution to our country’s economic standing. Second, the revival of a national airline shall not and will not cost this government billions of dollars as it is being flown all over by persons whose agendas we cannot verify,” remarked Nekundi.
He assured the nation that the ministry is prudent in all its affairs and that all necessary measures will be taken to ensure that the national airline is revived accordingly.
Nekundi said Air Namibia will never fly again.
‘’Air Namibia is not coming back. We are not reviving Air Namibia. We are bringing back a national airline and not Air Namibia.
Those are two different things. Air Namibia is gone. It’s killed by those who want to kill it. But a national airline will be in Namibia, want it or otherwise it will be here,’’ remarked Nekundi.
Nekundi said that the nation will be informed of every step the government will take to ensure the survival of the national airline.
