Former Ambassador to the United States, Margareth Mensah-Williams, is facing legal action from Nedbank over alleged default on her loan repayments.

According to court papers filed in the High Court, the bank is seeking a default judgment against Mensah-Williams in the amount of N$909 360.80, plus debit interest at 16% per annum.

The dispute stems from a home loan agreement and multiple mortgage bonds registered over her residential property situated at Erf 292, Academia, Windhoek.

On 3 December 2018, Mensah-Williams entered into a further home loan agreement with Nedbank for N$200 000, bringing the total registered mortgage bond amount over the Academia property to N$1 340 000.
Particulars of claim filed by Nedbank indicate that Mensah-Williams failed to maintain her required repayments starting 30 March this year.

Despite formal demands, no payment was made. Combined summons and court papers were served personally on Mensah-Williams by the Deputy Sheriff at her residence in Academia on 24 September 2026.

With no notice of intention to defend, Nedbank has placed the matter on the motion court roll for Friday, where its legal team will formally move an application for default judgment, cancellation of the loan agreements, interest, and legal costs on an attorney-client scale.
