The Namibia Traffic Information System (NaTis) is set to move from traditional face-to-face bookings to an online booking system, according to Andrew Shafombabi, the Regional Manager for the Khomas region.

Shafombabi confirmed that the idea has been in the works for some time and that the system has already been developed and tested, with only the implementation phase remaining.

“We have already thought about the idea and have developed the system. It has been tested and is working perfectly,” Shafombabi said.

“What remains is the synchronization of the new online system with the current system to ensure smooth integration.”

The new system is part of a broader modernization effort that includes computerized learner license testing.

Shafombabi explained that the prototype for the new system is already in place at the head office, where it has been tested thoroughly. The final step involves procuring the necessary hardware to deploy the system across various NaTis centres.

Under the new system, applicants will be able to book their learner license tests online.

“Once you book online, you will only need to present your reference number or proof of booking when you arrive at the testing center,” Shafombabi explained.

“You’ll sit in front of a computer to take the test, and once you submit your answers, you will receive your results immediately.”

The computerized testing system is designed to eliminate human interference during the testing process.

Shafombabi emphasized that the new system will ensure fairness and accuracy, addressing concerns about potential mistakes made by invigilators or perceptions of unfair testing practices.

“The system will not make a mistake; it will be fully computerized, and our staff will mainly be there to verify the registration process,” he said.

Shafombabi is optimistic that the shift to an online booking system and computerized testing will streamline the learner license process and improve efficiency at NaTis centres.

The transition is expected to bring greater convenience to applicants and enhance the overall experience for those seeking to obtain their learner licenses.
