Namibia’s market for hybrid and electric vehicles is showing signs of growth, with sales increasing by 127% year-on-year to 59 units in September 2026, up from 26 units in the same period last year, no doubt due to the surge in fuel prices. According to IJG Securities’ latest vehicle sales report, electric vehicles, including conventional hybrids, plug-in hybrids and battery-electric models, accounted for 3.9% of the 1 498 new vehicles sold during the month. The figures point to growing uptake of alternative vehicle technologies in Namibia, although petrol- and diesel-powered vehicles continue to dominate the local automotive market.
