Duran Duran were at the forefront of the New Wave movement in the 1980’s. Hugely popular with the fans, Duran Duran’s music was often panned by the critics as “throwaway mindless pop”. In fact, Moby said of the band in his website diary in 2003: “… they were cursed by what we can call the ‘Bee Gees” curse, which is: ‘write amazing songs, sell tons of records, and consequently incur the wrath or disinterest of the rock obsessed critical establishment’. Starting off in the New Romantic movement with their catchy tunes and keen awareness of the visual aspect of music, driven largely by the emergence of MTV, they became mainstays of the New Wave movement and were one of the biggest bands in the 80’s. They released a new album, “Danse Macabre” at the end of October 2023…a mix of covers, remakes of their own tracks and new music, they are still the Duran Duran of old…plus 40-odd years.
