A curious discovery has been made in Ayr, Scotland, where a woman stumbled upon a rare spherical egg during her routine grocery shopping. The egg, which was found among a dozen others purchased from Asda, is being hailed as a “one in a billion” find.
Intrigued by her unusual find, the woman contacted Thomson Roddick Callan auction house, which agreed to feature the egg in their upcoming sale. Similar spherical eggs have fetched as much as £480 at auction, though this particular specimen is estimated to bring in up to £80.
David Miller, auction manager at Thomson Roddick Callan, described the egg as a “rather unusual lot,” noting that while it is not perfectly spherical, its round shape is still remarkable. He highlighted the rarity of such finds, adding, “The chance of this happening is one in a billion.” The auction is set to take place on August 8, and Miller expressed hope that the egg will achieve an “eggcellent” price.
