Yango Namibia Outlines Safety Measures Over Driver Identity Concerns

todayJuly 28, 2026

Background

Yango Namibia says it has strengthened safety measures on its platform following concerns from some customers who say they have been picked up by drivers different from those displayed on the application.

Yango Namibia Country Manager Alex Mungai says safety is a shared responsibility between the company, drivers and passengers, with several systems in place to verify driver identities.

He explained that before drivers are approved onto the platform, they are required to submit personal information, photographs and official documents. Once approved, drivers are also required to complete photo verification checks before starting their working day, with additional random checks carried out during trips.

Mungai says passengers are provided with key information before a trip begins, including the driver’s photo, name, vehicle model, colour and registration details.

He urged passengers to confirm that the person and vehicle arriving match the information shown on the app before entering the vehicle.

“If it is not the same driver or the same vehicle that is on the application, they should not board that vehicle,” Mungai said, encouraging customers to cancel the trip and report any discrepancies.

He added that while Yango continues to invest in safety features, passengers and drivers also play an important role in ensuring safer transport services.
