UNAM Welcomes Denga Ndaitwah’s Boy Child Initiative

The University of Namibia’s Katima Mulilo Campus has welcomed First Gentleman Denga Ndaitwah’s engagement with the boy child, saying the initiative comes at a crucial time as many young men struggle with mental health challenges and are often reluctant to seek help.

Speaking to Future Media News, UNAM Katima Mulilo Campus student counsellor and part-time lecturer Ritta Ngoma said Ndaitwah will visit the campus on 3 August to deliver a public lecture on Strategic Leadership and Management, where students are expected to benefit from his extensive leadership experience as a retired lieutenant general.

Ngoma said the First Gentleman is passionate about the development of the boy child and will continue his engagements in other regions after the campus visit, encouraging young men to speak openly about the challenges they face.

She noted that, in her role as a student counsellor, female students are generally more willing to seek counselling, while many male students remain hesitant to ask for support despite increasing mental health concerns.

Ngoma believes Ndaitwah’s position as a national leader and role model could inspire more young men to speak openly about their struggles and seek help when needed.

She also encouraged boys and young men not to feel discouraged by the growing progress of women in leadership and other sectors, but instead to remain ambitious, confident and focused on achieving their own goals.

Ngoma further urged communities across the country to attend Denga Ndaitwah’s public engagements, saying they offer an opportunity for citizens to share their experiences and help shape programmes that better address the needs of the boy child.
