TransNamib has terminated the employment of its Executive: Human Capital, Webster Gonzo, with immediate effect following a series of internal and external forensic investigations into the parastatal’s property alienation scheme.

In an official announcement, TransNamib confirmed that Gonzo’s dismissal took effect on Monday, 26 October. The veteran executive, who served the state-owned enterprise for over a decade, was found guilty on multiple internal disciplinary charges, including gross negligence and breach of the company’s code of conduct and ethics regarding property management and disposal irregularities. The disciplinary action follows an internal audit conducted between 2025 and 2026 into TransNamib’s property alienation project, alongside a subsequent external forensic investigation authorized by the previous board in 2025.

Gonzo had returned to work in May while the disciplinary proceedings continued. The case has also escalated beyond internal measures, with TransNamib confirming that the matter was formally reported to the Anti-Corruption Commission in June 2026, which has since approved the file for further investigation.

Gonzo’s dismissal comes against the backdrop of heightened executive tension within the parastatal. Prior to his termination, Gonzo recommended disciplinary action against TransNamib Chief Executive Officer Desmond van Jaarsveld and other senior managers concerning the January 2025 Swakop River bridge collision and the fatal Rovos Rail derailment, arguing that legal accountability for system failures should extend beyond operational staff to top management.
