TransNamib CEO suspended pending independent investigation

todayNovember 6, 2026

Background

TransNamib has placed its Chief Executive Officer, Desmond van Jaarsveld, and Executive for Engineering and Technical Services, Bertus Eksteen, on precautionary leave pending an independent investigation. The decision follows the suspension last week of Executive for Human Capital Webster Gonzo, who authored an internal report recommending disciplinary action against senior management following two recent train accidents. Kristian Hamutenya has been appointed acting chief executive while the investigation proceeds. TransNamib’s board says the precautionary leave is a standard administrative measure and does not imply a finding of guilt.
