Savanna Beef’s operations grind to a halt

todayNovember 3, 2026

Background

Savanna Beef Processors has shut down its processing plant and placed about 240 workers on leave as foot-and-mouth disease continues to disrupt Namibia’s beef industry. The shutdown comes as Meatco resumes limited slaughtering operations. Restrictions on livestock movement have affected farmers’ ability to transport and sell cattle, while reduced slaughtering capacity has put pressure on meat processors and businesses across the livestock sector. The outbreak continues to disrupt the beef supply chain, affecting producers, processors and workers.
