The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has warned that nearly 90 million forcibly displaced people worldwide are currently living in countries facing severe exposure to climate-related hazards. In a new report released ahead of the COP31 climate summit in Turkey, the agency noted that roughly three-quarters of the global displaced population reside in highly vulnerable nations, with many refugees returning to climate-stressed areas. UNHCR highlighted that only about ten percent of international climate finance currently reaches conflict-affected and fragile countries, urging governments and financial institutions to dramatically increase adaptation funding for vulnerable populations.
