The Ministry of Gender Equality and Social Welfare is urging beneficiaries of the pension grant who have not yet completed their verification process to do so urgently to avoid possible delays in receiving their payments.
Ministry spokesperson Lukas Haufiku says the 31 July verification deadline does not mean beneficiaries will lose their grants if they fail to verify by that date, but they may experience delays, including not receiving their August pension payment.
Haufiku says verification remains necessary to ensure that the ministry’s records are accurate and that grants reach eligible beneficiaries.
He says the ministry initially identified around 15,000 pension beneficiaries who had not completed the process, a number which has since dropped to approximately 7,000.
According to Haufiku, the verification exercise was aimed at cleaning and updating the ministry’s database, as officials needed to confirm the status of beneficiaries and remove outdated records.
The ministry has conducted outreach programmes, including visits to old age homes and hospitals, to assist affected beneficiaries who may have difficulties reaching ministry offices.
Haufiku encouraged all remaining beneficiaries who have not yet verified to approach the relevant offices as soon as possible to ensure that their grant payments can be processed.
He emphasised that pension payments are a critical source of income for many elderly Namibians and urged beneficiaries not to delay completing the verification process.
