A 44-year-old man was arrested at Swakopmund on Saturday, after he allegedly commanded his pet dog to attack a police officer.
According to Erongo police spokesperson, senior inspector Judith Shomongula, it is alleged that police officers were conducting a random stop and search operation on Saturday at the T-junction of Tiras and Ondjamba Streets in Mondesa, Swakopmund.
The suspect, Christian Petrus, reportedly refused to co-operate and allegedly released his pet dog towards the officers.
He reportedly commanded the dog to attack a police officer by shouting in Afrikaans, “Vat hom! Mufasa!
The dog is said to have chased the officer, who discharged his service firearm and shot the canine before it could catch him.
The suspect appeared before the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on Monday and was granted bail of N$1000.
The case was postponed to 19 November 2026.
Police Investigations continue.
The police urge members of the public to cooperate with police officers during law enforcement operations and to refrain from actions that may obstruct or endanger officers in the execution of their duties.
