Gobabis Resident Calls for Community Action Over Proposed Land Sale

todayJuly 30, 2026

Background

A Gobabis resident, Jeraldo Jermano Eiseb, is calling on community members to unite against the proposed sale of 100 residential plots by the Gobabis Municipality to a private company.

In a social media message, Eiseb questioned why residents who have been applying for residential land for years have repeatedly been told that no land is available, while land has now been identified for private development.

He claims the municipality is planning to sell the residential plots for N$8.8 million, arguing that the land should first be prioritised for residents who are in need of housing.

Eiseb expressed concern that a private developer could generate significant profits by constructing houses on the land and selling them at market prices, while many local residents remain without access to plots.

He called on the Gobabis community to unite and oppose the proposed transaction, saying residents should have the opportunity to secure land before it is allocated to private interests.

Eiseb further announced plans to launch a petition calling for community support, saying the goal is to gather more than 200,000 signatures to demonstrate public opposition to the sale.
