Professor Anicia Peters
The CEO of the National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST), Professor Anicia Peters, presented the country’s Artificial Intelligence Readiness Assessment (AI RAM) report at the UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of AI held from 24–27 June 2025 in Bangkok.
The forum brought together international stakeholders, including policymakers, academics, and civil society, to discuss the implementation of UNESCO’s 2021 Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence.
Professor Peters presented Namibia’s progress in aligning with the ethical guidelines set out by UNESCO’s AI Readiness Assessment Methodology, developed in partnership with Japan. The report evaluates Namibia’s current capacity in areas such as governance, infrastructure, policy development, human rights, and public awareness related to AI systems.
Her presentation also included Namibia’s commitment to the ethical use of AI and the importance of transparency, inclusiveness, accountability, and respect for human rights in AI development.
The country has previously participated in regional efforts around ethical AI, including the 2022 Southern Africa Subregional Forum on Artificial Intelligence, co-hosted by UNESCO and the Namibian government in Windhoek. These efforts are part of the country’s broader focus on building responsible digital governance frameworks and preparing for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
