President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says Namibia is on the path to becoming a leading energy hub in ambition and action.
Nandi-Ndaitwah says Namibia is on a deliberate drive to move from oil discoveries to actual production without much delay but with responsibility.
She, however, acknowledges that partnerships and strong technical governance are needed to achieve this.
The President said this in a speech read by right-honourable Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare at today’s official opening of the Namibia International Energy Conference (NIEC) in Windhoek.
Nandi- Ndaitwah said Namibia seeks to contribute to the global projection of 7 million oil barrels daily by the end of 2025.
“Long before the recent discoveries, the government actively promoted the country’s potential in oil, gas, and renewable energy, laying a strong foundation for long-term growth.
The establishment of Petro Fund as a state-owned enterprise is one that exemplifies such a vision, namely,y of strategic investment in human capital to ensure that Namibians will be equipped to lead when opportunity arrives. Without a doubt, the government’s wish is to move from discovery to actual production without much delay, but with responsibility.
Through a well-paced approach, we will ensure our natural resources create long-term opportunities and national progress. We know that going ahead requires collaboration, technical capability, and strong governance, and Namibia is ready,” she said.
Nandi-Ndaitwah also emphasised the need for sustainable exploration that does not harm the environment.
“Namibia’s energy ambitions will remain firmly aligned with our environmental values. We take pride in our global reputation for conservation and intend to uphold it.
“As we grow our energy sector, we do so with a deep commitment to safeguarding biodiversity, respecting our natural heritage, and pursuing development that is both responsible and sustainable,” she added.
The 7th edition of the (NIEC) has attracted stakeholders in the energy sector from across the world and will conclude on Friday.
